For 100yd shooting 1:12 is plenty fast since you're going to want to use light flat base bullets for the best accuracy. A fairly heavy profile with a 21 3/8" or so length is the standard benchrest barrel.
Thinking of purchasing a PacNor barrel to replace my savage factory 223 barrel, present barrel is a 26 inch 1:9 twist, I wanted to try a 1:10 5 groove 24 inch barrel, target shooting only mostly @100 yards any suggestions, I'm interested in accuracy, not concerned with weight.

Or if you happen to get a barrel with a slow twist that doesn't like flat based bullets......my 1:14 hates flat based bullets. I like a little faster twist to keep my options open.
.
Pac-Nor will make barrels as long as 32 inches.

What happens if you wanna shoot p/dogs or g/hogs...?
weight not an issue ?
27" Pac Nor 223 Ack Imp w/9 or 8 twist 3 groove SS SM
Fireform your brass as you shoot targets...
AI FF'd cases for long range target or varmints
You'll easily be able to shoot 50s-80s flat or BT
Std 223 is a fine choice also...I just prefer the AI chamber
S/shot Savage & heavy Pac Nor's rock !! 'JM' Marlin lever gun nut !
Sounds like the crown is hosed up.Originally Posted by Samdweezel05
Go with a 1 in 8 twist for more bullet options up to 80 grains if you decide you want to shoot longer range in the future. 26" or 28" will let you reach out to 1k. If your adamant about no more than 24", I'd still go with an 8 twist. My 1/8 twist barrel shoots 52 gr and 53 gr SMKs very well at 100 yards.
