    338 Federal Head Spacing Question

What is the best way to set the head space up for a 338 Federal? Do you use a 308 Go-Gauge?

Yes, it uses the same gauges as the 243 Winchester, 260 Remington, 7mm-08 Remington, 308 Winchester and 358 Winchester

Set it so it closes on a go and won't close on a no go if you want a sloppy factory spec headspace.

Of course you can build a safe and potentially more accurate shooter that will stretch your new brass less, without the use of any gauges, but that is a whole new can of worms. ;D

Use two or three pcs of your 338 brass from your FL die.......

Thanks for the information. If anyone has experience building a 338, how did it work out? What length barrel did you use and what make barrel and contour? I would like to build a short barreled treestand gun that will shoot less than 1 MOA.

    I built a 358 Win on a Savage 16 action using a Pac Nor 12 twist...21" x .80" at the muzzle.....1-6 4200 glass if I recall.....run 250 grain Hornadys in it....goes by the name of 'Thumper'.......

You really shouldn't have a problem putting a sub MOA gun together.

I put this 338F together using a 200 action, 22" mag sporter in a JR stock.

    Using H4895, BR2, Laupa brass and a 210 Sierra seated 10 off, 3 at 100. The 180 A&B shoots about the same.

...Real easy with a A&B bbl. & Stevens action...Built it more for pigs than deer...200gr Nosler CT's & H4895..Not my usual 1-holers but close enough for my intended purpose...lol..Didn't feel like taking the time to make it 1.. :)..1rd outside of bull was me getting the scope dialed in..Next 3rds good to go..I head spaced it off a FL sized pc. of brass.. ...
