    Tight neck clearance ?

Say you have a tight neck chamber, .314 what would you want your loaded cartridge to measure at the neck? .310? or smaller? Thanks

    Re: Tight neck clearance ?

The benchrest guys generally want a .001 -.002 " difference between loaded case neck and chamber neck size. But their ammo is precisely made to fit the chamber closely. Bullet dia. is monitored closely as well. For general purpose use, a little more is probably a good idea. .004" is probably a good number.

If your chamber neck is .314 then you want a minimum of 2 to 3 thousands from a loaded round measurement from the case. Most benchrest shooters find that 1 thousands tolerance causes many problems, such a fliers for one. With that said you want your loaded round to measure .312 to .311. Sometimes more tolerance is not a bad thing.

What kind of round are you cambering that would have a .314 neck?

    Re: Tight neck clearance ?

I'm running a straight 284win with a .314 neck, my friend had that reamer.

run out is doing well, every once and a while I'll get one that doesn't measure up and into the scrap bucket it goes.
