    Hornady Hand Primer

I'm replacing my RCBS hand primer that went belly up cracking two places in the diecast zinc frame. It was an older one w/o the primer feed. I was leary of buying another RCBS after that happen in only three years of use so went with the Hornady instead because of it's aluminum frame and was cheaper than the RCBS. I'm not at all crazy about primer feeds having had nothing but problems with a Lee system so I'm going to use the Hornady like a standard single feed priming tool. Did I make a good choice or am I throwing away money on a POS. I would have preferred one of the better benchrest primer seaters from Sinclair but didn't care to take out a mortgage and have to give up my first born to boot.

All you have to do is call or email RCBS technical support and they'll replace it free of charge. Don't believe I ever saw one that didn't have primer feed, so it must be pretty old.

I don't recall when I got this one but it sat for a long time stored away and forgotten until a few years ago when my Lee went belly up.

I really like my hornady. Good feel and can prime tons of cases without your hand getting sore. Good leverage and quality.

Called RCBS and the lady said they only had a few parts for the old primer seaters. Just my luck, they didn't have the right or left half of the hand primer body.

Out of the hand primers that I have tried, the Hornady is the best. I used a few others, borrowed from friends, but ended up buying the Hornady. Not a single problem and thousands of rounds primed.

    Re: Hornady Hand Primer

Mine arrived a few days ago. I finally got to try it out yesterday. I don't care for the cheezy plastic feed tray setup but they have to be used because of the bushing molded into them. I like the feel of the tool and still prefer to seat primers singley as I don't like the way the primer feed can flip primers the wrong way when you least expect it. I fully intend to modify mine by cutting the bushings from the cheap primer trays and use the Hornady as I did my old RCBS and Lee. I load for benchrest only so don't need high volume priming. Contrary to what Hornady says, my Lee shell holders work just fine with the RCBS bushing tray. I DO like the way it will stand vertically on the work bench.

I have had a lee for about 20 years and have had no serious problems using it,However what holds the case when you prime with the hornady tool?

    Re: Hornady Hand Primer

I've been able to use some Lee shell holders in my Hornady tool even though it's said they won't work in the Hornady. I have run into a couple of my Lee SH's that wouldn't work in the Hornady, too tight for the primer plug and it jammed when squeezing the handle. RCBS work fine. I don't have any Hornady SH's at the moment. The more I use this tool, the more I like it.
