Not sure these have been out long enough to percolate thru the supply system... Brownell's, Midway USA, etc. all list the regular (old) style barrel nuts and wrenches. SSS might have them... they sell a wrench designed to work with the smooth (new) style nuts so it seems like they might have the nuts in stock.

I called Savage and they would not sell me a smooth barrel nut unless it was shipped to a gunsmith. I have not been able to get through to SSS to check and see if they have any available.

You probably won't have a lot of trouble finding one before long. A lot of people are changing the out for the old type as they are a lot more user friendly.

Savage has gotten very sticky about selling repair/replacement parts directly to customers. I wanted to buy a replacement trigger weight spring for my Mk II Accutrigger and they wouldn't sell me one either.

I guess these days, Brownells, Midway, etc are the places to go to for any parts.

BTW, I've also heard that replacing the smooth nut with the former grooved design is the way to go if you plan to do any significant barrel changes. Also, that way you can remove the OEM nut with a pipe wrench and not have to buy the special nut wrench.

And that is why I can't find any smooth barrel nuts without teeth marks in the WTB or WTT classified section. Oh well!
