    My First McSwirly (Updated)

The Choate Stock I had on my Model 12 wasn't bad but the gun weighed a ton - so I ordered a McMillan Savage Varmint Stock back in December. Here it is installed, 50/50 medium blue and black - matches my ammo boxes! ;D

Oh yeah, I've upgraded my bench equipment (from a Caldwell Rest) so hopefully I'll be able to give 1-Shot some competition (fingers crossed)

I like the looks of that blue stock

SO, what did you do with that old boat anchor now that you replaced?

Well... it looks like it will be collecting dust now! :-\ I also ordered a McMillan Hunter with black paint for my Model 11 .338 Federal but I lost the stock screws! I had to order a new set from Savage! Argh!

Oh no! The guys at work are calling it "The Smurf Gun" - can't a Savage get any respect? >

Finally some good shooting weather here in Oklahoma. Got out to the range and shot some good groups but nothing worth bragging about (mainly wanting to get on paper). The new rest and rear bag are just awesome! Hopefully no howling winds this weekend!

Well, at least the bolt handle is on the proper side.

Southpaws of the world unite. If I was other handed, it would be no fun to just walk into a gun store and buy anything you want (well a little fun). As a lefty, when I want a 257 Roberts or 338 Federal I get to build it myself.

How does that stock feel to carry? What did it end up costing? Been planning a hunting rifle and that stock look close to what I am looking for

    Scalian,

I'm glad you asked about the stock because it was a big surprise. I'm a big fan of the McMillan HTG (I've got one on my 10FLP) but this is now my favorite. The forearm is a little wider than the HTG's but it fit my hand a little better - the comb is a little higher and I like that too. Of course, I've got a Savage Hunter in the closet waiting for my .338 Federal to get back from Robar - I may change my mind again!

I'll post some detailed comparison pictures when I've got all three together.

Oh, the price. About $420 each with the military discount. Fellow G.I.s - don't forget to ask for it!

Thanks for the info. Working on planning out my next build that will be a hunting rifle. Im thinking 7wsm so I can use it for just about anything i want and still have the range to reach out.

Well, I just got my Model 11 back from Robar and reassembled it. There's no doubt anymore... the McMillan Savage Hunter is the best feeling/fitting stock I've ever tried. Uh, sorry about the lousy picture - I'll take a better one at the range.
