I wonder if one of the new 22 Hornet/221 Fireball/223 Remington actions would be easier to adapt. I was looking for a used and abused one for a 7.62x25 Tokarev build. It seemed like it would have been a perfect fit for my project because the Tokarev rounds I was loading were 1.75" long when using the heavier bullets at subsonic levels.

Unfortunately those actions are still relatively new so there were any that were available cheap.

I'm looking at something the size of a CZ 527 American. You need the smaller diameter bolt to keep the cases on the bolt face till they flip out the port.

I did the Mil x .03937 and came up with .224, so the 5.7 is a 22 on steroids . . ? Right? I have a .17 Rem Fireball, and for these old fingers - that is about as small a caritridge as I think I want to try to reload. Can you imigine that small a cartridge and holding the bullets and getting the powder into it, when there are better cartridges out there that will do nearly the same thing. I guess boys will be boys and we just have to play don't we . . ;D ;D ;D ;D

The 5.7x28 has virtually the same velocity and energy as a 22 magnum when comparing the same bullet weights. A 32 grain is 2350 fps and a 40 grain is 1950 fps in the 5.7x28. A 40 grain is 1910 fps in the 22 magnum.

These stats are from Wikipedia, the easiest to research. There might be some minor diferences but both the 5.7x28 and 22 magnum are still pretty close. Personally I would like the 5.7 because I can reload it where the magnum can't be or at least easily.
