$240 for Stevens 200 good price?

Grice Gun shop, Clearfield, PA is having a sale on Stevens 200s for $239.99. Thinking about getting a magnum and converting it to a .458 mag.
Calibers available:
22-250
243
7mm08
308
25-06
270
30-06
7mm Rem Mag
300 Win Mag

Here's the link to the sale flyer (Stevens are on page 17):

From what I can tell, and the research I've done, seems like a good deal to me.
You know more than I do, so I'll ask, "What do you think?"

Not bad but, too bad you missed out on the Academy Sports sale in January, 200s sold for $179.00. With tax, I paid $197 out the door. That price isn't bad and you can sell the barrel and stock here in the classifieds to recoup some of your money. To access the classifieds, you'll need to be a paid member (12/yr) best money you will ever spend.

Decent price. For a 458 WM count on adding a machined recoil lug and a duramax stock.
You definitely dont want to shoot a 458 WM with a tupperware stock.

I was ready and willing to buy two of those Academy Stevens 200s...but their company policy is that they won't sell a firearm to you unless you are 1. military or 2. live in a state immediately bordering the state you're trying to buy in.

Right now, and with that caliber selection available, i would buy as many as you can afford...there are rumors that the Stevens 200 is headed to the grave. That migh have been a rumor, but it is said that the "AXIS" is it's replacement.....I wish someone around the S.E. part of New Mexico would have a sale like that....I bought 3 of the 200's that were on sale at Acadamy, but they were only in 7/08 & 270..and the 7/08 has a 1-11-1/2 twist, or something like that.....rsbhunter

Rumor I heard is the Edge/Axis sales were disappointing. Stevens sales are better. Stevens was supposedly for Big Box stores, Edge/Axis was supposed to sell alongside the "normal" Savage line.

I hope Academy brings back the Stevens on sale. But it looks like Mossberg has gotten into Academy with their Maverick for $199.

Flip a coin.

Anyone from Savage on the board that wants to comment?

I think $249 was the normal price for the Stevens 200s.

The Academy stores by me told me the Stevens 200 were on clearance, that's why they are selling them for $179.

They said they have had them for a couple of years and were trying to get rid of them.

Pretty sure they were not going to offer them anymore.

Maybe I should check and see if they have any left, although I think I have enough for a while ... ;D

Re: $240 for Stevens 200 good price?

A sales guy at the Chattanooga Academy told me they had 6 Stevens 200s in .270 due to arrive this week. I thought they were all gone at the $179 markdown price. Glad I was wrong.

BTW, the Academy 200 is not identical to the other 200s I have seen. the Academy model has a brown stock and a one screw trigger. The 200s at Sportsman's Warehouse has the grey stock and a two screw trigger.

The Stevens 200 appears to be made to the retailers specifications. I imagine that Savage offers retailers several deals and they pick the one they want. Stock color seems to be different for different retailers. Academy is light brown. Gander Mountain is dark green, if I remember right.

Academy has had Stevens 200 "Specials" for three years now. They are not just trying to get rid of them on "clearance." They continue to order more. They may even be "loss leaders" to get folks into the stores.

Well, I hope it is true that they are not just marking them down and selling to get rid of them.

I was just passing on the information from the store clerk.

That guy probably had no idea what he was talking about ...

What caliber? I have seen Stevens 200 in gray stocks at my Academy also, but they were magnums and cost $399.

The Stevens line is selling for $350+ in Central Florida. At $240 each, load up... come to the gunshows in central Florida and pay for your family vacation to Disney with the profits.

Acadamy in Lubbock, Tx. is selling the Stevens 200 for 289.99 (in 270 & 7/08)....and said that all of the Acadamy's prices are the same.???? Can't prove it, but it makes sense, with a company that big to keep all stores the same...rsbhunter

Re: $240 for Stevens 200 good price?

Would you please ask Academy to quickly build a store in Central PA so that I can get in on this $179 bargain? In the meantime, it looks as if my $240.00 price, while not as good as YOUR :P prices still appears to be a good deal

Congratulations to all who are able to get a better price. 8)
