After Market 10 Round Mag Well / Trigger Guard

While researching which Savage 308 rifle I wanted to buy I went to a web site that offered a Trigger Guard / Magwell that bolted onto extisting rifles so you could use the 10 round mags

I have been trying to go back to it all day but can't seem to find it.

Does anyone know which site I'm ytalking about?

Can someone explain why it is so expensive to get bottom metal and Mags for precision rifles? I suppose it is the limited demand not driving up supply?? Why then won't some one, like Savage, offer a rifle with a 10 round detachable box as a factory option?

You are in luck Savage does offer a factory 10 round detachable magazine rifle for sale. It is the model 10BAT KS and the 10 BAS K

You also have a low cost option, if you dont mind only having 9 rounds. SSS makes a 9 round magazine that just fit into the Savage factory detachable magazine gun. No modifications needed.

The company that offers a Detachable magazine bottom metal is AI.

They are expensive because the companies have a monopoly on a very small group of shooting enthusiasts.

You hit the nail dead center on the head. The companies call it marketing.

The web site lists a "complete extend magazine" for $74.80 Does that mean it comes complet,no assembly required?

The other issue is that there are three different detachable magazine assemblies in the short cartridge size alone. The staggered feed short, the inline feed short and the through-stock release detachable magazine in the J action.

Yes $74.80 and all you have to do is put it in the gun. (Of course you have to have a Detachable magazine gun to use it.) SSS use to offer a DIY option for less money but the problem was Savage keep changing subtle things on the magazines, so SSS discontinued selling them and only sells the complete magazine.

    I like that better anyway.

Since the 10 FCP-K has the bolt release on the bottom of the gun it looks like I'm going to have to use this option.

I wonder how hard it would be to extend the release for the DBM.

Not quite, you have any idea how much a 7 or 9 axis CNC costs to machine these parts? Machine time on those machines is not cheap, and they aren't something that you can slap on a vertical mill and turn out pieces of, unless you just want a chunk of metal that looks like poo. The best options for smaller companies is to co-locate with a machine shop and sublet for machine time, but most sub-contract out the work to 3rd party specialty companies that do the manufacturing, while the company reselling and developing the product does the design, and distribution end.

If you think that $209 is pricey for the CDI piece, look at what the Remington guys like to buy. Badger M5 is $400/mag, M4 $329. Stuff is pricey all around. I do know that the Badger stuff is made on 9axis CNC's, latest and greatest and VERY expensive machines.

Jeff @ CDI only charges $60 to inlet your stock. That's a freakin' BARGIN. I just got my stock back from him and i'm very pleased with his work, and he's a heck of a nice guy as well, very pleasant to talk to, and always returns his calls.
