    Re: Shipping a barrel

Just got a barrel today. It cost $13.97 Fedex ground and was packed in a tube. Those UPS stores are a ripoff. They need to make a profit on top of shipping ::).

    Re: Shipping a barrel

Everything I ship with any value ALWAYS goes out USPS Priority insured with delivery confirmation. For barrels I usually pack them in a tube with paper or bubble-wrap around the barrel. The P.O. even sells the tubes if you cant find them elsewhere. With all the insurance and all it usually runs me around $17-18. If it is going really far away then a bit more, and a bit less for in-state or next-to-state shipments.

Sure, you can save money and take a chance by shipping them standard shipping, but get one of them lost in the shuffle and you will have 3 months worth of he!! trying to get a claim settlement from the USPS! Ask me how I know this!!! ::). I learned the hard way.

I used to custom make flintlock muzzlelaoders. When I first started I tried UPS and all I got was a hassle if I said it was a rifle. I went to FedEx and no problem. And cheaper as well.

The USPS has a 3 sided tube that I have wrapped barrels in bubble wrap and placed in these tubes. Not sure what they were designed for but they work great for regular length barrels.

It cost me somewhere in the $7-8 range to ship a barrel from my office using UPS a couple months ago.

The post office is the best and cheapest way to ship. I send all my barrels and scopes u.s.p.s. priority mail with conformation. To ship Heavy target barrel cost between $12.00-$15.00 depending on length and weight. I send a lot of scopes back to Leupold in OK and from Maine it cost under $10.00 to ship with confirmation.

With FedEX it makes a huge difference in cost to ship to a residence rather than a business. When ever possible I ship to the recipient's business rather than their home address.

Did you go to a UPS Store?

You should have been able to ship that barrel UPS ground, directly from a UPS location, for no more than 15 bucks.
