For starters, you'll need a 25-06 barrel and a barrel nut wrench; an action wrench or a bench vise with hardwood blocks will be very helpful in breaking the nut loose.

You'll need a long action .473 bolt head for the 25-06 and I'd HAPPILY buy your long action .223 bolt head if you want to get rid of it to help finance the swap.

You'll also need a 30-06 staggerfeed mag well & mag follower, if you want to use the magazine.

Unless it is different than the other LA 223's i've seen it will have to be a single shot. The mag cutout in the bottom of the receiver is cut for a SA mag box.

Howdy Chad :waves: I sent Chad over from another forum, he is ~ an hour from me, so I might be able to help with some stuff, like the barrel wrench.

Boilerup ;D I figured somebody would be on the bolt head like a chicken on a junebug, Another option is if someone had a 2506 they wanted to trade

I did not know if the mag well openings were different on the old LA for the 223& 308, I ought to measure the opening on my E& F series rifles.

If it's like the long action 223 I had, the mag opening is smaller and will not take a 25-06 mag box. Like "thirty06" said, single shot is an option if you still want to go 25-06

So the mag opening should be for 308 length cartridges?

The mag box in mine had a delrin spacer blockto shorten the box for 223. The box would have been 308 size from what I remember as the delrin spacer was only about 3/4" thick, maybe a little less. Hard to remember details on a rifle I had 15 yrs ago!
