110 BA 338 Lapua - Scope selection opinions (help 110 BA Owners)

    Hi Folks

My 110 BA 338 Lapua should arrive shortly...

I would like to get a feel for what scopes 110 BA owners are using...

My Savage 110 (308) has a Burris Black Diamond in 32x... My Barrett 50 has a Burris XTR in 24x...

Getting old and my eyes are not what they use to be... Right now I am leaning towards a Night Force in 32x for my new 110 BA...

    600 - 1000 maybe out to 1500 yards...

Give me some feedback in terms of scope selection...

Nightforce is a great scope. So is S&B and US Optics. I would recommend going with a lower power though. You dont really need 32x for shooting out past 1000 yards.

I've got a NF NXS 5.5-22x50mm on mine... seems to work well enough.

One thing to consider is that the lower power scopes usually have more range of adjustment, which can come in handy if you want to shoot ultra long-range. The 5.5-22 has 95-100moa of adjustment, plus with an R1 reticle there is up to 30 moa more 'hold off' in the reticle. The 3.5-15x with the same reticle has 40 moa of hold off, and gawd-only knows how much internal range

I've been extremely tempted to stick my SS16x42 on there, though... that or one of the newer SIII fixed 20x w/ the modified mil-dot reticle.

Guess one other thing I'd also keep in mind....generally speaking when you are dialing up to say 32 power...your eye relief gets closer to the scope. With a pretty big thumper....you don't need a :) above your eye. Lots of guys using the NXS 5.5-22x...you pick the 50 or 56mm flavor.... for big boomers. Certainly the other scopes mentioned are great as well. I will put in a plug for one more....the Premier Optics 5-25X.

    Good Luck,

    Wayne

Thanks for helping me shift to a better solution...

Looks like I am moving towards the NF NXS 5.5-22x50mm... Is this the one you folks are using?

I think that would be a mighty fine scope on your new rig. My 5.5-22X is the 56mm version...I purchased mine before NF would sell a zero stop to the general public.

Sounds like your going to have one sweet rig when you're done!

On such a rifle, I would take a real hard look at having 50mm lense dia. with a 5 to 22 power setting, I would also want mil-dot recticules and turrets. I do believe they are on SALE right now. Night Force would be my first choice!!!
