Range day with the Savage 12 BVSS and Striker

I got a chance to hit the range with my $300 12bvss in .223 and the 338/375 Ruger Striker today. To say that I'm happy with the results would be an understatement!

Here's the group of the day with the .223. It's only a 3 shot group, but that's because I thought that I missed the target while doing load development and shot the other 2 rounds at a different bullseye. I will obviously be trying this load again! ;D

Next up was the Striker in 338/375 Ruger. Here's the gun (just because I like to show it off any chance I get )

And here are the groups. Again, they are only 3 shot groups. 338 components are a little expensive to shoot 5 shot groups while load testing.

These are with 250gr Sierra MKs and H4350 starting at 71gr and working up to 75gr. I'll go out again and run the powder charges up a few more grains.

All and all, it was a good day out with the Savages.

A local shop took the BVSS in on a trade for an AR-15. The shop owner offered it to me for the price he paid, just to move it out of the shop ASAP. It came with a BSA 8-32x50 scope which I sold for $75, so really the rifle only cost me $225. Not a bad deal!

I know the BSA scopes are not the best, but was it at all usable ? I have a BSA pistol scope on my .22 pistol, and it does fine. just wondering how good they are at higher magnification.

The BSA scope was usable up to about 18x. Once you got past that things started to get dark and blury. Plus the contrast was pretty poor at all powers. I don't think that the lower power BSAs are bad scopes, but they aren't great at higher magnifications.
