    Base screw question

I put an EGW base on my 116 the other day. I've had this action blueprinted and opened up to the large barrel shank size. The very front screw hit the barrel threads before getting tight on the base. The other 3 worked fine. My question is: leave it out and rely on 3 screws or try to shorten the screw so that it will tighten without hitting the barrel threads? I'm probably going to do the latter but was wondering if 3 screws would be strong enough. I've seen some Leupold one piece bases in the past that only used one of the rear screws and seemed to hold fine. Thanks.

    Re: Base screw question

Shorten the screw. A little time with a file is all you'll need.....It doesn't take much.

The issue is very common for large shank actions.
