The extra two inches may add 70 - 100 fps depending on the bullet weight.
I am building a second 223 and my first one has a 26" barrel. Will lengthening this new one to 28" be any benefit? This will be a prairie dog gun. And I already know that the PD will not know the difference.

It will be a 1 in 12 twist and I shoot a 50gr. V-Max.

True performance begins at 30 inches.

+1 what Hammer said.

More barrel means more velocity and more rifle weight - both good things in a PD rifle!

Pac-Nor can make you a 40-inch long barrel.
Then thread two of them together to get a full 80-inch inches.
Order them with 3-groove rifling with 1 in 4 inch twist.
Have a blast with them prairie dogs.
