    power ?

Well I finally decided on the vortex diamondback but I can get a 3-9 for the same price as the 4-12 so I'm leaning toward the 4-12

this gun is a .243 win
    uses
deer, coyote, and ground hogs shots around 100 yrds 200 yrds max

If 200 yards is your max, I would get the lower power so you get more light in hunting situations. Maybe even a 2x-7x or fixed 4x.

    Re: power ?

Not to disagree with Eric, but I ussually tend to lean the other way and go slightly higher than lower in the power department. However if I go too far it has been a hinderance. Course that why I ussually have two guns to cover any one purpose, one with higher powered optics and one with low.

The 4-12 will still give you a 3mm exit pupil which should be more than bright enough. If you need a little more brightness just dial it back to 9x and it's the same thing.
