Probably the magazine used in the 7.62x39 guns. :)

    I don't know, but I would say a 6BR mag would work.

Savage has a new entry into their line in 7.62x39mm.It looks to be a carbine edition. It is in the 2011 edition of their catalog. That would be a riot as I am thinking of buying the complete rifel from them myself.

Call up Savage, SSS, Northland, etc, and order up a factory 7.62x39 magazine from them. You will pay about the same price as you would if you were to buy/modify a factory mag in another chambering.

either modify a 223 mag unless you want longer bullet seating then start with a 22-250 mag

I would think a factory 223 centerfeed mag should work with some tweaking.

I had an AR15 in 7.62x39 during the time you could no longer get frankenmags, and it was impossible to get
more than 5 rounds to feed as the shell is so tapered you really need a curved magazine for high capacity.

But 4-5 should work with most any mag but you will have to tweak the lips and probably the spring.

If you dont have a bolt head you could get fred to machine a 223 bolt head into PPC.

Personally I would rather have a 6.8 SPC.
Much better hunting round, but the 7.62x39 wolf junk ammo is very cheap.

My 1978 Albanian SKS did just fine on my white tail this year. I think the aussies would agree, the 7.62x39 is a pretty good hunting round (unless you are from the school that says anything lower than .300wm is worthless)

If it were my build I would be going for 6.5 Grendal (6.5x39) and have a seemingly limitless choice of bullets.

    OP - is your barrel a .308 or .311?

I thought it was a valid question as the OD of a 'standard' 7.62x39 bullet is .311 not .308.

    Re: Building a 7.62 X 39. . . . Magazine questions

I called up Savage to find out the groove diameter of their Scout Rifle in 7.62x39. (Model: 10 FCM Scout, manufacturer's sku 19128)

The Customer service rep would not give me the bore diameter. He stated that he was not allowed to pass me that information.

As it was pointless to argue, I thought I would pose the question here, in case anyone owns this rifle or the Model 11 FCNS (also in 7.62x39) and knows the answer.

The reason I would like to know is to determine my reloading possibilities if I were to purchase one.

I know the CZ527 in 7.62 x 39 has a diameter of .311 (posted on their website) and was wondering about the Savage.

Thanks in advance to all who take the time to respond.

    Re: Building a 7.62 X 39. . . . Magazine questions

I am building one of the same.
    I am using a 110LA that was a 223.
should be no prob just change the bolt head
I would say build using a .308 barrel (that is what I am doing) as there are a lot more bullets to shoose from.
As for the new 7.62x39 from Savage as I posted in another thread, I called Savage and was told .308.
    Good luck.
