    Re: mag bolt

Just last night I put a 7wsm barrel on with a 7 rem mag bolt head. It seems to fit just fine! There is a very small difference between the wsm and the belted mag rim diameter but the bolt head I have will accept both!

Calib, J_glover,s action started out as a .270.
He used a 7mag,300mag, bolt head.

    Re: mag bolt

A Wsm bolthead is controlled round feed and has a standing ejector. I've heard they changed this to push feed on the new ones,
but I haven't seen one, so not positive. The 7,300 mag's are push feed and will work on any normal long action.

Not to hijack this but do you think the magnum bolt face would work on a target action too? I'm making mine a 300wsm and the standing ejector isn't going to work.

    Re: mag bolt

I honestly don't know if there's a difference in the bolt on a target action versus a standard action.... I've never heard anything separating the two bolt heads but I'm still a newbie

    Re: mag bolt

It all depends on what you are planning to do with it....... there are alot more bullet options on the 300

    shoot long range targets/hunting

looking at ballistics doesnt the 7 rem mag with a 180 grn berger do about the same as the 300 win with any berger?

    Re: mag bolt

I'm not sure about that.... if you look in aftermarket barrels sinman has a post comparing the 338 mag to the 7mm wsm that convinced me

I had a 7mm Rem. Mag.Savage M111 and put a Shilen Barrel on it in .270WSM,worked out o.k. I have put 1000 rounds down range with it. Still going strong.

    Good Shooting.
