    New Stock

First, Id like to say hi and thank everyone for a great forum. I have been reading nonstop since I joined and there is alot of useful info here. I bought my son a stevens 200 .243 and bought myself a 300 mag. I am getting my son happy with his before I do anything to mine. He wanted a laminated stock so I ordered one from stockys. It was one that they have discontinued so I got it fairly cheap. They did tell me it was for a centerfeed so I figured it would drop right in. I received it today and the mag well was too big and it wasnt recessed for the little clip on the mag. So I figure it is for a stagger feed. But reading here I have read about modifying it. So I grabbed my files and started to make the notch for the clip. I got that done and I started thinking about what I was going to do in the mag well. I looked up at my shelf and there sat a roll of duct tape. I ran some around the mag and made a big square spacer to tape to the front of it and kept trying it in the hole as I put more on til it fit real snug. Pushed it down in the hole and put the action on and tried feeding shells and ejecting them. Now this might not be the proper way to modify the stock but from what I see so far is it works great.

I am wanting a tactical stock from Choate for my 300. I called them the other day and they told me they have it for the long action centerfeed now. I am hoping when I order it that it is truely for the centerfeed. But if not, I have my trusty roll of duct tape here. LOL.

Back during the Civil War we used to call that a "Field Expediant".
