Customizing a Stevens 200 ?

I've got a new in the box Stevens 200 chambered in .243 and was wonting to build me a 6x47 Remington.

My question is would it be feasible to change out the parts or sale the rifle and go with the smaller .223 ?

well it would be easier to start with a 223 but than again its nice to have 308 family parts around just incase you get another barrel with that bolt head.

It would be very easy to trade your .243 bolt head for a .223 bolt head and start from there.

Am I missing something? When did Remington legitimize the 6x47?

I would have to go with a custom barrel in the 6x47 Rem.

I bought a Remington Model Seven LS a couple of years ago and was going to convert it to a 6x45, but after pricing everything out ( new trigger, barrel and reloading equipment) I backed out and sold the .223 Model Seven.

there is a 6x47 remington and a 6x47 lapua, 2 very different calibers. The remington is based off the 222 mag case, the lapua is more like a 22-250 ish.

Sinman is correct, if you wanted to stay with your Stevens 200 in the 243 you can do a simple barrel swap if you go with a 6X47 Lapua. Everything else should work for your rifle build. You may want to swap out the trigger and the stamped recoil lug while you are doing the barrel swap. If you want to get away from the lighter sporter barrel you will also need a stock designed for a heavier barrel or you can open up the barrel channel on the sporter stock.

The old Remington is what I'm after. I use to own a T/C Encore and had a 6mm TCU custom barrel. I think the small cartridges are cool..........

I have built a couple of barrels in 6x45 and 6x47 remington before, I haven't had much call on them lately but there are still guys shooting them. I built one of the 6x45 barrels for a guy that was going to use it as a deer rifle. If I were going to do it I would probably go 6x45 unless it was a dedicated BR rig.
