8 Pt taken with FP 223

I took this buck at just a bit past sundown. I'd taken my Savage Tactical in 223 because I'd already taken a 10 point and was thinking I'd focus on Yotes or any other varmint of opportunity. I had it loaded with 68 grain Match ammo. Last trip to the range with this combo just destroyed the 10 ring at 100 yards. This nice 8 Pt walks out, maybe 50 yards from my stand, I can't resist taking another nice buck . I don't normally hunt deer with .223 and its getting late. I'm a bit worried that if the shot isn't perfect I will have a hard time tracking the deer. Decided to go for a neck shot. I know the rifle is fully up to the shot. I squeeze off a shot and the buck drops DRT. I gutted and hung him up for skinning the next day.

Next day I'm looking for the entry hole and its very hard to spot. I don't find a exit hole. After skinning I find that the bullet produced a very clean 1" hole all the way though the neck. With the hide removed I can insert a finger from each side of the neck and touch in the middle. A very clean and quick kill.

Anway, not the biggest deer taken this year. But very nice Texas buck. Naturally, I am very happy with the FP!
