    Steven's model 200 build ?

Ok I bought a stevens model 200 in 7mm-08 that I'm wanting to build a tactical .308 out of. My questions are what would you guys recommend as far as stock and barrel combos what works and what don't? I'm very confident in doing the work myself just need some advice on where to start.

    Thanks
    Chris

    BC Medalist Tactical 4.4" stock
    SSS, Timney, or Basix trigger
McGowen or Shilen blued chrome moly barrel (keeping with a dark "tactical" theme)

I would go with a medalist stock and a varmint contour 16-24" barrel, twist depending on what bullet you want to use. I would go with a SS barrel and black it out.

What model savage parts do I order 10 110? I gather it's a short action from my readings.

And how do you "black out" a ss barrel?

Any 10/110, you have a small shank Savage that is all you really need to know.

The Manners or McMillan stocks are great for a tactical build, but not as cheap vs say the B&C Medalist. Really depends upon what your ultimate goals are. Nitriding is a superb finish that will protect and is said to increase barrel life and will never flake off like paint, so long as matte black is your desire (sounds like it as you stated tactical build).

You can get great barrel deals forn northlander supply or sinman.I would try the criterion or mcgowen if you are on a budget and a shilen select match if you are not on a budget.I run the shilens and they shoot great.I would stick with the 7-08 as well.I have lots of .308's but really like the 7-08.I like the 7mm bullets and you have a great selection as well.
Willing to give back for what the sport has done for me!

I'm getting feedback on other sites as well about keeping the 7mm-08, but the reason for the 308 is that we already have 2 308s. And if push ever came to shove it would be nice to have a bullet to fire even if it was loaded for another 308 it would still go bang in the others. i was thinking about the er shaw barrel kits and a b&c stock as i am on a budget and want to spend the majority on a good scope.

I would opt for a new factory take off 308 before the er shaw ... just my opinion. Also a "tactical" build is not limited to just 308`s so keep your mind open incase you find a take off barrel. I bought a low round count Lothar Walther 6BR barrel off here awhile back for a friend.Got it at a great price. Shoots in the .2`s at 100yds. As far as stocks, I have 2 of the medalist & love them for the money.

Oh almost for got if you are wanting a tacticool rifle you need a Rock Creek barrel, or at least to get interest on snipers hide (if you go there).

Lol nah I just want it to look B.A. With a good shot group and sound cool with a 7.62 suppressor can on it.
