    1899 take down

I picked up an 1899 22HP yesterday. After I removed the barrel and reinstalled it, I noticed the barrel has some movement. Is there a shim for the this? I didn't notice one fall off when I bought it, the barrel didn't seem loose before I removed it. Also all the numbers match on the wood but the stock is cracked would I be better of fixing or replacing? Any help would be great.
    Thanks Mac

Mac, better off to fix the original, finding a replacement would be to hard and costly anyways.

Shouldn't be a shim in there.

    You have 2 choices.

1 Find an old time gunsmith that knows the 99 and is willing to work on your prize. I have owned it's twin since 1965.

2 Pay the $12.00 dues and you will find the answers to your problems. If I remember correctly there are at least 3 ways you can do the job yourself.

By the way WELCOME to our happy home

If that barrel rattles with the forend on it ,get it checked by someone who knows their stuff.I think Doug Turnbull Restorations will work on those and fix the stock or make a new one if yours is to badly damaged. He is located in east bloomfield ny.He has a web site I believe. If you cant find it call me and I will get his number for you.My number is:1-315-986-2915 Jon Lennon He isnt cheap but his restorations are the best.

Since I do not know where you live I will just throw out another OLD time gunsmiths name

    Harry MC Gowen. (815) 937-9816
    St Anne Illinois

If the name looks familiar it should be. Harry sold the bbl works a few years back. He is up there in years but he and his son still run a great shop and I have seen a couple great restorations done in the last couple years.
