Most commonly avaiable ammo in different countries/locals ??

For those that travel and hunt..........
I would assume 223, 308, 30-06, and 7.62x39 would be available at most any decent store in major countries.

Also how about the winmags, 300, 338, 458 winmags etc.

I would think the mauser rounds might be more available in Russia and Europe, like the 7mm, 8mm, 9.3mm

    Say for

    Alaska
    Africa
    Russia or mainland europe

I seem to recall reading somewhere there many European countries have a ban on military cartridges for civilians...which is why 222 Rem is so popular in some places in Europe vs. 223.

In the US , you will find 12g , 30-30 and 30/06 are very common , almost any backwoods store will have these .
Once you go over seas , look for the 30/06 , 303 British and the 8mm Mauser to be quite common ( Africa ) and as for Europe the 7 x 57 & 8 x 57 Mauser's should be no problem .

In Russia, I wouldn't consider anything common. Guns are illegal.

That is interesting considering you can go on wild boar and other large game hunts in Russia.
I guess they must use pea shooters.

"There are no problems bringing your rifle or shotgun into Russia. Handguns are not allowed. We will handle all the necessary formalities to obtain the permits. This may take up to two months and will require informing us of the make, model, serial number and a caliber of the weapon. You are allowed to bring 2 firearms and 100 rounds of ammunition for each weapon. Lead shot is permitted on all waterfowl hunts. Shells for waterfowl hunts can be bought in Russia. The gun permit will be given to you at the airport by one of our staff who will help you clear customs."

A quote from the website you linked. I gather from that "bring the ammo you need, you're not getting it there." Like I said civilian firearm ownership is generally illegal for Russian subjects, but just like everything, the privileged are privileged in every way. The country is so strapped for cash, they'll gladly make many exceptions for well heeled tourists as well. I'm married to a Russian and her mother and brother are absolutely in awe that I can have guns of my own.

When Ed, Rob and I went on the 2005 safari to South Africa I remember our host, Karel and his friends had quite a few 7mm Mausers as well as .375 H&H, 12ga. and .22LR.
