Guess my other post wasn't clear. I am looking to put together a trim, light, quick handling rifle, does Savage make such a thing in a centerfire? Can one be made with aftermarket parts? I had a 14 classic, but did not like the feel. Now I see they make a light weight hunting rifle, but not in a lefty.
Short action, plastic stock, tally ring/base, cut down sporter barrel, topped with a leupold vx2 ultra light. That's what I built for my wife in 308. It was very light(never weighed it), but brutal to shoot. It kicked like a mule. She wouldn't shoot it and I didn't enjoy it either.
I swapped a Duramax stock and added a 20" varmint barrel. Added some weight, but made it much more enjoyable.

TRim, light wgt rifles in any decent hunting caliber will have a lot of recoil. A limbsaver butt pad will help. Best bet is a 7-08. .243, 260 calibers might be good choices. 20 inch barrel minimum. It all depends on what you plan to hunt with it as to what is the best caliber. My 110 plastic stocked rifle converted to 7x57 with a 24 inch barrel works very well and isnt a bear to carry and doesnt recoil all that bad. And I hunt woodlands and find it isnt all that tough to handle in the woods. With an A&B barrel shoots one inch groups, more than adeqaut for woods hunting but the 7x57 can still reach out and touch something if need be. I think you are going to have to build one
My personal favorites are the 99-C's for light, fast handling Savages, and the tang safety makes them LH'd

While it may not be your cup of tea, it will give you an idea of what you can do. That rifle weighs 6 lbs without a scope. Add in the scope of your choice, and you have final weight. The Strikefire that I have on it weighs 8 oz.

Pretty easy to hit 7# with a short action. Just go for a normal SA, tupperware stock, ultralight rings and base, a 18" barrel and a leupold 2-7x scope.
I ran some weights the other day.
SA with weaver base, machined lug and centerfeed mag and SSS trigger - 38oz
Tupperware CF stock - 26 oz
Leupold 2-7x scope - 10.5 oz
Leupold ultralight 2-7x scope - 8.5 oz
Rings, cant remember what brand but they are light - 2 oz
19" chopped sporter 308 barrel - 38oz
With the ultralight scope that weighs 7# even.
If you go to a 18" pencil barrel and lighten the stock a bit you should end up at 6.5#
Beyond that you could have the bolt fluted and go to a carbon fiber stock.
^^ What he said. You can reasonably expect to get a 6.5# rifle without spending too much, but you may not like the way the rifle looks or handles, that varies greatly from person to person. I love mine, even with the stock cut short. Used it for pig hunting a couple of months back and walked for miles with it through swampy/thick stuff. I really couldn't have had a much better rifle for that situation. My step-bro with this autoloading Rem. 7400 and heavy scope was very jealous.

I like short barrel bolt rifles based on the 308 cartridge in the 7.5-8# total dry for comfort in shooting and ease of carry.
Actually my 19" barreld 308 with a duromax stock was 8# even and really nice to shoot
with the decelerator pad since I mostly shoot 208 gr bullets.
At 6.5# it would be pretty snappy especially with a tupperware hockey puck recoil pad.
One exception was a 6# AR15 I had that was a 6.8 spc.
Great carry rifle and the 6.8 spc does not have much recoil.
I could have gotten it to about 5# 10 oz with a good bit of expense.
9# is my limit for a long carry.
Tried my 458 WM at 10# dry and while easy to shoot at that weight was a bit heavy for me.
Of course the ammo probably added another pound.
