    floating a model340 barrel

    Hello

I am putting a new stock on a model 340 30-30 bolt action. Will I need to install the clip that was installed about two thirds up the barrel? Or will the piller bolt be enough too hold the action and barrel, and still be safe?
    Thanks

You need the barrel band - I wouldn't call it "unsafe" w/o but it certainly would be unstable in the stock.
