    257 rbrts rebarrel

Would one need a long action to re barrel to 257 rbrts, or would the 308 short action work, or would either one work ?
    Thanks

    Re: 257 rbrts rebarrel

Gun show yesterday, stevens 200 nib 239.00 + tax, 243 and 308, I got greedy and grabbed both.
He had long actions same price, currently building a 338-06, so I went with the short actions.
Should have picked up 1 of both ? Oh well.
Also, different table had stainless accu trigger 204 ruger used for 284.00
I had a hard time walking from that one .
Lot of deals on rifles, some from last fall were 100.00 less, I smiled when I walked bye with my 200's.
    Anyway.
257 rbrts, need confirmation it needs tobe a long action, that was my first thought, just wasn't sure.
How about the 338 federal, that can be built on the short action correct ?
Then again, I could just shoot them as they now are chambered ?
Never gave it a thought when I saw the price, just thought, re barrel project ?
    I need another gun cabinet.

I too wondered this. The concensus seems to be that you can do it on either, but the long action gives you more flexibility with seating depth. I have a long action 270 that will likely become a 257 roberts this year. If you have a short action and want to do it, go for it. You may also look at going 250 savage or 250 ackley (the ackley is right there with the roberts).

    250 savage.
I have one for my wife, one for my daughter, and one for myself., all stevens converts.
    Great round.
I have 700 classic in 257 rbrts. I forgot about that one when I was at the show .
    ?
Not sure what, if anything a will change them too ?
This morning I am having remorse over not picking up the 204 ruger ss accu trigger ?
    Then again, I have 2 22-250's and 1 223 ?
    338 federal ?
