    Loads for lrpv in 22-250

I BOUGHT A NEW TOY a couple of weeks ago. It is a brand new lrpv in 22-250 with a 1 in 12 twist. I broke it in friday with some 40[ gn. bullets, having the best luck with r-15. I can't get anywhere near the lands with the 40 grainers. I was hoping you all could share some loads for 40 thru 60 gn bullets. thanks in advance...

I tried the 40's and didn't have a whole lot of luck, I think the 40's are a bit light for anything other than p-dogging. Here in central washington we always have wind ripping through the plains and 40's fly on their own! I have tried 50's, 55's and 53 match. I have had the best luck with the 50's.

You might start with H380, H380 was developed with the 22-250. The most accurate load during development was 38 grains so they named the powder H380. I knocked it down to 37.4 grains of H380 and use 50g v-max or Nosler b-tip's which hold 3/8" groups in both my Howa and my weatherby SUB MOA (winchester brass/WLR primer).

I'll look in my data book and see what other load data I can come up with.

I been running Ramshot Tac with some 55g midway blems they look like remington accutips for hunting they will print some nice small groups at 33.0g. Ran some varget at 36g with some 50g vmax's.

Try 35.5 RL15 with 52gr Berger match, CCI, set COAL at factory lengths, does the trick for me!

RL-15 and Varget did it the best for me. both powders I was shooting a 55gr Sierra Spitzer. I believe I was using right about 34.5grs of both if I remember correctly with OAL at 2.350 i think, primed with a Fed 210. It has been awhile since i have had to load any since i took my 22-250 barrel off the action to use for my 243AI barrel. I'd check my record book, but i need to go outside to get it and its a lil cold tonite out there. I do know that with either of those powders and the 55gr Spitzer it would one hole em at 100yds, and hold under 1.5" at 300yds for five shots if I did my part.

Re: Loads for lrpv in 22-250

Okay, I went to the local 100 yard range today, and shot the following 3 shot groups. first off was 40 gn. nosler with vn 140 at 37.8 grains. groups of .268 and .361. Secondly was 40 nosler and 37.0 of r-15 with groups of .657 .381 and.244. Then I switched to some 63 sierra semi pts;. these are older bullets that always shot well out of my 22-250 bvss a few years ago. The powder; is varget with 33.5 gns. The groups were .462 .404 and .312.. I know these are only 3 shot groups but I am not that great of a shot and am still learning. The only thing I have done to this lrpv is remove the red blade on the trigger and adjust it to 8 or 10 ounces. I coul not be happier at this point with only 50 rounds down the tube. I still want more v- max loads in different weights from 50 to; 60 gns. There are some loads you guys suggested earllier I WILL try when the time is right and i dont freeze my butt off like the last 2 trips. Time to get the carharts and gloves out in lower Mich. Goin muzzleload huntih in northern mich in a couple of days so wont be able to test loads for a while. The bottom line is i know this rifle will be a shooter. thanks all and send more loads as I have a wide variety of bullets. thanks Birdie

Accurate Arms 4064 is a good choice as well.

This article is a pretty good read. There are a huge amount of powders that perform very well in the 22-250. Luck, Tim

If you want a good target load, try 34.5gs of H4895 and a 52 gr Match bullet. I have not found a 22/250 that did well with this combo. To tell a story, this fall I bought a used Savage 12VSS in 22/250. I mounted a scope on it, and bore sighted it, and took it to a match the next day. I never fired the gun before, and the past owner never told me what he shot in it. I loaded a bunch of mix match, various headstaped, different length and weight cases with the combo mentioned above. I sighted the gun in , and shot well on the first target. I turned out winning the match betting out several shooters. I was leaps ahead of the second place shooter's aggregate groups size. The moral of the story is: that combo will shoot!

    Remington brass
    Winchester LR Primer
    32.8 Grains varget
    60 Grain V-max

Highly accurate load for a 1-12 twist 22-250

Your rifle can also shoot the 68-69 Grain bullets even better. different recipe though.

I like the 60's on Coyotes and P-dogs.

Thanks everyone. When I tested I shot .003 off of the lands with the bullets listed above. It has been too cold to shoot lately here in mich. How far are off the lands are you shooting with the 52 gn. and 60 gn. bullets? Birdie

2nd what Dennis wrote; 34.5-34.9 grains or RL-15, Berger 52 grain match varmint bullets, Lapua brass, Fed 210 primers and seating the bullet .010" off the lands. I have the same rifle with the same twist rate. Best 5 shot group was .160" center to center. This rifle shoots in the .300" to .400" range all the time with mild wind.

Hmmmm, I don't understand the above post. Above is what I posted about my 22/250! First, my bullet would not be in the brass if I were .010 off the lands!

The above load works in my 22/250!

    Dennis;

I use a Hornady tool (http://www.sinclairintl.com/.aspx/pi...uge__standard_) to find out how far I can seat the bullets out of the brass before they engage the rifle lands when I close the bolt. In my testing I get very good results with no pressure issues when there is a .010" gap between the rifle lands and the bullet. Hornady's manual has more detail (http://www.hornady.com/assets/files/...ion_gauges.pdf)
