    stevens mdl 200

i have 2 stevens model 200,s 1-30-06,1-.223.both have 3x9 nikon prostaff scopes on 1 piece leupold mounts.a retired gunsmith who speacialized in triggers did both for $30 a piece to 2.5lbs.i didnt clean after every round,i have removed copper inside barrels twice.im only getting 2" groups off the bench w/both rifles.i dont handload anymore.my question is what would be some simple things to do to improve accuracy.i have thought about a recessed target crown,$75,but dont want to waste the money if would not help.what are your thoughts out there?thanks,Bill :)

If you have less than 100 rounds, shoot them a little on the dirty side. Dont use fmj for accuaracy. 308-168fggm 223-40Blackhills....my .02...

I agree my factory barrels liked to have about 20 rounds down after cleaning before I would get my best groups.

Shoot it dirty and see what it does.

How are your groups shaped, do the string vertical or horizontal? Have you checked your barrel channel to see if the barrel is free floated, groups will go sour as the barrel heats up and makes contact. Grouping will usually improve when the rear tang is floated too. The tupperware stock has a lot of flex in the area of the recoil lug. If your placing your front rest close to the tip of the stock, that may cause the stock to flex and make contact with the barrel. Glass bedding after everything is nicely floated can improve your accuracy along with ammunition your rifle likes.
