Does your lug have a hole for a small pin? if so, you could make one to help index the lug. If not, line it up the best you can and tighten the barrel nut. I turned my barrel vise into an action vise by drilling a hole in the lower oak block for a short headless threaded action bolt and then bolted a lug shaped jig to the front of the same block using aluminum angle brackets to hold the lug in place while I tighten the nut. Works like a charm.
