    Value of Savage model 1899

I was wondering if I could get a ballpark value of above rifle. Serial # is 96xxx. It looks to be the original finish on wood. It is chambered in 30-30 has the delicate schnoble forend, perchbelly stock, classic metal butt plate, and a 26" octagonal barrel. The sights are marble ivory bead on front and rear sight says marble on it also. It looks like an old gun. Bluing is wore in places, but no rust. Gun was my grandfathers and he use to hunt dear with it. My uncle gave it to me so there's noway I'd sell it for sentimental reasons. I was more curious as to whether I should put gun in gun safe or just use it to hunt. I see there is a model 1899 on gunbroker that is in similar shape with a 14xxx serial # that has a "buy now" price of $850, but it has a different barrel, sights, and is chambered for a different cartridge. I appreciate any help.

Here's some photos of the gun to aid in any valuations.

Most of the guns on GB don't sell and you'll see the same gun on there for over a year at some of the prices.

Your gun will bring around $500-$600 to the right buyer in the U.S.

Its a 1899b model and if it were mint it would be in excess of over 1200.00. In its present condition about70% it is worth about 750.00 to a collector. I would hunt it with soft shooting(down loaded hand loads to match the original black powder equivalent) Other wise just put it away and oil it real well for long term storage. There is no sense in destroying a nice example of an early 99 with a 4 digit serial number which makes it a first year prodution rifle.

4 digit serial number would make it an 1895, which it's not, it's a 5 digit serial number.

    Also, $750????

It's got a busted forearm, theres no finish left on the receiver at all and it's in the silver with a small amount of pitting. Front sight is incorrect and I'm seeing some rust down the barrel.

Send me a p.m. some time, I've got all kinds of $750 guns like that to sell you.
