    .270-08 AI (update)

Anybody shooting one of these? I am looking for load data, info is pretty scarce. I have some data to start with but I would like to find some more.

    Thanks!

A few to get you started. I only use 130s ( 12 twist barrel) , so I can't help with much anything else.

    Thanks Bill!

I really appreciate the info, I was planning to shoot 130s also. You are getting some great velocities out of a 22" barrel.

I'm looking forward to what you're gonna get from that 25" barrel Bob!

Me too! It may be a while before I get to measure any velocities, my chronograph needs a little repair.

    Bob,
How are you making out with the "little" 270?

    Re: .270-08 AI

    Bill,
I am still fire forming cases but I hope to have a load ready to go in time for the Missouri deer opener on the 14th. of November. I was using 45.0 IMR 4350 behind a 130 grain Remington "Bronze Point" (had a bunch of old ones) but I'm running low on 4350 so I'm going to try some IMR 4831 and see how it does. The 4350 was making nice looking cases but I'm giong to try to develop a hunting load around it since I use so much of it in other calibers I load for. I haven't really shot any groups yet but I may try to this weekend. It seems to be a very mild mannered little rascal!

What would be cool about this round, is the 85 gr barnes TSX bullet.

The guys over at the 6.8 SPC forum are pushing this bullet at about 2900-3000
fps and its devistating on hogs and deer.

You could probably get about 3450-3500fps out of the 270/308 with minimal recoil.

I have some test loads with the 85 grainer over a lot of powder in 270 weatherby magnum just for kicks.
Should get about 3800-3900 with it.

Going to test it out on a hog hopefully next week.

    Re: .270-08 AI

Well I got her going in time for deer season, the load I settled on was 46.0 IMR 4350, WLR primer and 130 grain Ballistic Silvertip. It worked well, I posted the story and a pic in the medium game forum. Getting good groups but I'm going to do more load development after deer season.

Thanks very much to all of you who have helped make this project reality!

    Howdy Bob,

My son decided to carry the little 270 this season.....as usual I get whats left over! >

BTW...I think I forgot to ask, who's reamer did you use? Dave sent me prints for the both 270-308 and the Improved. One specs a .310" neck, the other a .308". Mine has a .306". What did you go with?

    Re: .270-08 AI (update)

    Bill,

My barrel was already finished when I got it from Adam (Cowboyarcher) it has a .313 neck. I have no idea who did the work but it is a first class job as far as chamber and crown. I would like to get a reamer with a little smaller neck and probably will eventually. My loaded case necks from reformed Winchester 7mm/08 cases only mike .303 but accuracy so far has been pleasing. I am going to try to find some .358 Winchester brass and see if I can come up with some thicker case necks. I only have 27 rounds through the barrel so far. I fire formed twenty cases and loaded 15 of them with the IMR 4350 load. I fired 2 for sighters/scope adjustment and 2 at the deer. The fire forming loads were grouping very well, all under .5 with the best one going .238 ctc. IIRC. I'm spread pretty thin time wise right now but I intend to get serious and see just what this thing will do!
