most companys crowns are subpar anyways, I just throw them in the lathe and recrown to my personal favorite crown and then I know its good.
I have bought two Savage model 12s in the past 6 months. The first was a 12BGTVS in 204 and the second one, about a week ago, a 12BVSS in 22-250. Both are sweet looking rifles except the crown. On both rifles there were obvious gouges around the muzzle. The 204 was so bad I called Savage about it. They were very courteous and mailed me a UPS sticker and had the rifle back to me, recrowned, in about a week free of charge. That was a great experience making me a Savage fan. But why can't they seem to do it right the first time?
Has anyone else noticed this?

My crown is nice and sharp. Did you buy it brand new? Was is shooting poorly?
Both rifles were bought new. I did not shoot the 204 before getting it recrowned. Will hopefully get out to shoot the 22-250 tomorrow - rain has put a damper on my shooting recently.
Sinman Do You Recrown With a 11 Dig Or A Steped Crown ? Thanks DDOriginally Posted by sinman
11degree on everything unless the customer wants another.
...Lol..I do both..It's just a matter of what I feel like at the time...I usually just ask the bbl. what it would like...lol...

I have tried all different ways of crowning, from 11deg to reccesed to straight 90deg to 1 inch reccesed and the only thing I can tell is some look better but they all shoot well as long as it is smooth and no burrs on the lands and centered on the bore.

Wish I had the ability/tools to do my own would settle for a quality smith in area to do it but honestly difficult to locate in driving distance.
My 10FP has a funny looking crown, not perfect looking, but it sure shoots well. It may shoot in the 1s & 2s if I had it fixed, but I'm happy shooting .5" 5 shot groups, as it is ;D
JDG your 10fp must come from the same lot as mine. Almost looks like a chip out of the crown, but it shoots too good to send back.
