    Axis 270 question

Hello, I am new here. I was told about you by the awesome customer service at Gun Shack. I bought a used Axis in 270 that appears to be cobbled together by an unscrupulous seller. It appears new but has a 223 bolt head installed. obviously it wont chamber the 270, so upon finding the offending bolt head I ordered the 270 bolt head from Gun Shack. This of course did not work because the headspace is set for the shorter bolt for the 223. It took me about one minute to find the cause on this website search (big thanks) I need the short action bolt head for 308 which is shorter allowing proper firing pin protrusion but that has proved hard to find. So my question is:
Can I mill the 270 bolt shank to match the 223 length for firing pin protrusion and adjust the headspace to match the longer locking lug dimension and be OK??
    Thanks in advance guys!

Should be the same standard .308 size short-action bolt head used on any 110-series rifle.

110 series rifles are long action... not short action.

It is an AXIS which are long actions that use the 110 short action bolt head.

This one should work for your 270 winchester. Ignore where it says not for long actions. That only applies to the 110 long action, not the AXIS

This is one of the confusing parts about Savages. Some years the short and long actions had different model number, ie, 10 for short action 110 for long action. Other years they just used the 110 identifier. And there are exceptions to that as well. Basically a model 10,11,12,16 are going to be short actions, but, a 110 may be a long or short depending on the year it was made.

And Axis are all long actions with a different bolt configuration, but, they accept 110/10 short action bolt heads (at least mine does).
