    Barrel changes and bedding.

This just occurred to me as I was going through my mental to do list for the full overhaul I'm about to start on my 110 LA. Assuming no parts changes, would removing and reinstalling the barrel cause significant enough changes to warrant redoing the bedding in a hand bedded stock? If so are there critical areas to avoid that might prevent that necessity?

I'm changing stocks so this isn't pertinent at the moment, but I have future plans that will require removing the barrel more than once.

    Thanks

The barrel and barrel nut should be free floated anyway so swapping barrels shouldn’t be an issue.

Right. I was wondering about minimal clocking changes in the recoil lug mostly. When I bedded the og stock I believe the devcon curled around the edges of the recoil lug. I suppose if there's enough gap in the locating pin for it to shift I could try and the edges off....

The rear face of the lug should directly contact the bedding. The sides and front face should have 1 layer of tape gap (remove the tape after the bedding cures). The front/side gap from the tape allows you to remove the action, but still maintains repeatable fit. Scratch a small hidden witness mark on the lug/barrel/reciever to ensure repeatable placement while torquing the nut.

I have bedded several Savage stocks in the past (B&C and tupperware) and I'm about to bed a new B&C next month.

I'm a big fan of witness marks...
