    Lowering dehumidifier settings

Settle a debate. If a basement dehumidifier is set at 35%-40%, does it have to work harder to get the humidity down, or longer? Is there a risk of shortening the life of the unit using lower settings? It's advertised as a 3000 sq ft unit, located in a 1700 sq ft area.

My random thought. In the smaller room, it will tend to short cycle. Turning it lower will make it run longer, but probable still within the duty cycle.

Thanks. I won't tell the person at the other end of this debate that I went online looking for back-up.

Duh. It just wouldn't be proper.
The Dunning-Kruger effect is alive and well.
