    110 bolt

My question is this I have 110E made in 1989 that has a fin on the baffle/floating head and corresponding grove in the action. But my brother-in-laws 1986 110K doesn't Why?

The guide fin was added in 1970. I suspect your b.i.l.'s gun was assembled from surplus parts at the factory. This was common with Savage in those days, they used up left over parts rather than scrapping them after a design change.

What is the purpose of the fin?

The original intent was to keep the bolt from lifting slightly during cycling and to prevent the bolt head from hitting the front of the port from non-support.

Yeah, never thought on it much, but figured it was there to keep the bolt on track so to speak. Never knew it wasn’t added until 1970.
