    Reverse Baffle Washer?

Every once in a while I see "reverse baffle washer" listed in custom built Savage rifles. What exactly is this?

    Re: Reverse Baffle Washer?

The factory assembles the bolt with the bolt baffle jammed up against the bolt head, and the washer between the baffle and the bolt body. Some people feel this causes the baffle to 'wipe' off any grease placed on the bolt lugs long before it ever gets close to locking up inside the action (where the grease needs to get to). They put the washer between the baffle and the bolt head to keep some space in there for grease or other lubricants to ride.

Not sure if thats what they're talking about, but it kinda sounds like it.

It probably is. A few years ago in an article in Varmint Hunter magazine Fred at SSS mentioned that he had assembled his featured custom Savage rifle that way. Thanks!
