Savage 110 long action .308 does it's thing.

Planning on giving this target set a go later today as we are supposed to get some sunshine.

Rifle is a Savage 110 long action .308 with a 24" heavy OM barrel. Rail is a Murphy Precision 20 moa. Trigger has been upgraded to a Jard 7oz. Chassis is an MDT ORYX. Scope is a Sightron SV 10 - 50 x 60mm mounted with Night Force 34mm 6 hole rings. Ammo is handloads using DAG berdan cases primed with Tula KV- 7.62N primers, powder charge of 43.5 gn of Varget pushing a 150 gn custom flat base bench rest bullet loaded to a CBTO of 2.3010. Shooting off a Rock front rest and Protector rear bunny bag.
Shooting at 100 yds. Intention is to shoot 1 rnd per minute for a row of 5 then 10 minute cool down before going to next row of 5 until target card has been completed.
I have 40 rnds of this load left in my range box. Temp is 17 now at 05:21. Would like to see it get up to close to freezing. Whatta Hobby!

Last time out she was shooting sub .2s for a 10 shot group. Flyer at 6 that was .5 out didn't really bother because it was called. Whatta Hobby!

One word for this target set would be humbling. Shot a 4 out of 25, leaving a whole bunch of room for improvement. Whatta Hobby!

I feel your pain. Why is it one day I can go out and shoot tiny little groups in the center of the target and the next week, same load, I get rounds all over the place? I ponder over it, think about it, load up the same and the next week get little groups again. Rinse, repeat.

I am just glad it happens to others so I don't feel so bad :)

It's all part of the game. Some we win, some we lose but it's all good. That bug sure looks tiny at 100 yds.

    LOL, yep.

One summer day I was shooting at 200yd. Flies buzzing all over. I notice one cause I thought it was a bullet hole in the middle of my group. It flew off. Didn't pay much attention and shot the final round. When I looked at the target there was red bug juice around the hole. I guess he thought the middle of the bull was a 'safe' zone after I 'missed' it with the other shots :)

I know it looks as though I may have, but no. Gives me a better starting point for seating depth. Obviously the bullet I am using along with this barrel do not like seating to the lands. Working on a ladder with .010 jump and then up the line. Whatta Hobby!

A little trigger time today. 50 deg with some wind. 100 yd and the misses are not the rifle or ammo's fault. It's early in the year so things should improve. Whatta Hobby!

Sometimes I do hate the wind :) I don't mind steady so much, it's those 'crossing' flags that screw me up a lot.

Tell me more about using the Sightron SV 10 - 50 x 60mm. Does it reduce mirage as people say on the Sightron SV 10 - 50 x 60mm webpage?

    Thanks

https://sightron.com/products/sv-10-50x60-ed-zero-stop Can also get it without zero stop.

Take care not to confuse with the SIII 10-50x60 here. https://sightron.com/products/siii-l...0x60-zero-stop

I use a ton of different scopes and have not seen one yet the reduces mirage by any significant level once a barrel warms up. Whatta Hobby!

Here is a target we just recently shot during our informal bench league. The Snake: Start at the head. each sub-target must be hit before you can move on to the next. Shot at 100yds. The head is 1.5" while the tail is .5"

Finishing up a project on a Savage 110 in .308. Set in a ORYX chassis with Sightron scope and Rifle Basix trigger set to 6 oz.
Having way too much fun. 100 yard target set up. .308 Savage bolt rifle. Have been working on a rough load ladder for a couple of weeks and did the fine ladder this morning. Made a scope correction for windage after 41.2. After each 5 rnd group, barrel cooler was run for 10 minutes and then the barrel dry patched with an Otis cable. Found the center of the ladder at 41.6 gn of Varget for the 110 Sierras in this rifle. All groups were sub moa, but 41.4 at .5, 41.6 at .3 and 41.8 at .4 sure gives me a good idea of where I should be. Whatta Hobby!

Makes all the difference when work is done creating a charge ladder. As shown , a little work can make a 1" shooter into a 1/4" just by getting the right powder charge figured out. As you can see, less than a quarter grain one way or the other and it goes from being quite accurate to just pretty good. Worth the effort in my opinion. Whatta Hobby!

And picking the wrong bullet can suck as well. Good shooting.

    The 150 bullets.

    1. Jimmy Carpenter put these together using Berger jackets.
    2. Bullet OAL 1.166"
    3. Bullet BTO 0.552
    4. Savage 110 barrel 1-10

The 110 gr bullets for the last ladder are Sierra hp varminters.

Loading up this morning for the final .1 of the ladder I have been working on with Lapua .308 brass, 210 M primers and Varget. Using the 41.6 from the last target set as a center point. Loads will be 5 each from 41.4 to 41.9. May seem like a lot of effort, but developing a load specifically for the " fly swatter" target using a .308 Savage bolt rifle takes a little more work than for generic bullseye shooting. I have been known to enjoy a good challenge and the focus on this one has been a hoot for the last couple of months. Whatta Hobby!

41.4 ended up being the choice. ran a couple more load ladders after the previous photo today with a temp of 25 degrees and a light wind. Last one was 41.3, 41.4 and 41.5 just for the halibut and 41.4 won. Supposed to be rainy tomorrow with another 3+ inches predicted. Expecting to spend some time loading a couple hundred 110 Sierra hp varminters in Lapua cases over 41.4 gn of Varget set off with 210M primers. Looking forward to attacking the flyswatter target with ammo ready to do the work. Whatta Hobby!
