    Magazine help

    Gents,

My son misplaced his magazine for his savage model 10 .308 rifle.

Doing a quick search, I ordered what I thought was the correct mag ($75 mistake) but apparently it doesn’t fit.

Doing more research his Model 10 appears to be a Model 10p-sr with a magazine that has a lip.

Closest I can find is a Savage short action axis mag, will these work? Does anyone have the part number for the proper mag?

On a side note anyone looking for a savage 10 fcp/flcp mag? I’ll make you a great deal lol

EDIT: Sorry, this was incorrect. I didn’t notice the bottom of rifle pic you included and was answering your question as to needing the Axis magazine.

    Thank you sir!

Is there any other compatible mags for this style? Not a fan of unobtanium mags and having to spend $100, but I guess beggars can’t be choosers….

No dice! You’d need to replace your stock to accept AICS mags. Which are the preferred style. I wouldn’t build or own any rifle that didn’t use AICS mags.

You can't get a large mag like the FC P sr for your 11 unless you go with a darkeagle custom, or a standard size axis mag will also work.

Here is the correct magazine. PN# 55105. https://www.ebay.com/itm/33518429965...Bk9SR6SN3aSbYw

And a better price. Sorry for the confusion.

    Don’t think Walters will fit.

You need the plastic capped one with the plastic release lever on it like the one Dave posted.

Also, I see your plastic trigger guard is cracked. Very common issue. Just an fyi In case you didn’t know, Gunshack sells a metal replacement one for the plastic.

I’m looking at the OP’s pictures now. The one showing the bottom metal, that is a release lever in the front, yes? Or is there no thumb release in the bottom metal? The picture below is a 10P-SR. If the OP’s rifle looks like this, I believe the correct mag should be the 55105 magazine.

Here is the magazine supplied with this rifle. Which sure looks like a 55105 magazine to me.

Yes, I know it’s plastic. LOL! Just nobody says Bottom Plastic! LOL!

I can’t really tell from the picture. Is it there an just an optical illusion? The picture is a straight down angle which makes everything look so 2-dimensional.

Thing is, we haven’t heard from the OP since he first posted. But yes, if it has the lever, it’s like the one above, PN# 55105. If it doesn’t have the release lever, it’s the Axis mag. PN# 55232

But in pictures of the Model 10P-SR, the 55105 magazine is shown with it. Just as in the link below. (Bottom of linked page.) I guess we just need to wait to hear from the OP.

Okay, it was worth a shot (my post #6). I became so frustrated with the magazine performance (10 FCP-SP) that I replaced the bottom metal with a proven AICS design

Smart move Honestly, once using the AICS design, all factory rifle mags seem poorly designed.

Actually, Yes… they are. I’ve been using the Magpul 10rd AICS mags for the last 7+ years & in two different brands of Chassis. And both chassis will easily accept Accurate mags. For some the Magpul mags do need to be fit a little is all. Easy to do with files/sandpaper; all of which Magpul states on their site. Other times they fit perfectly. Not sure where you’re getting your info but it’s inaccurate. Likely spewed out by an ignorant hater of Polymer mags. In spite of the fact they work flawlessly.

Yup..No need to shoot in the cold Walt, LOL! They’ll both work just fine for you. Just as they do for thousands of others. I think Jimmy might still be looking for proof of what was said. He’ll figure it out.

Wow… I stepped away for a few weeks due to work and forgot to check this thread.

Seems there’s a little back and forth about what’s the right mag. How can I help to be sure?

Do I need to attach a few more pics? Different angle? Etc?

I haven’t bought a replacement mag yet… simply bc I’m still confused lol

The 55105 mag fits the bottom metal that has the mag release lever on the bottom metal itself.
By the OPs picture I don’t see a mag release lever. I am pretty sure he needs the newer Axis style mag that has the lever molded into the mag itself.I believe it is a 55232.

Longdude, does your son know if this is what the mag looked like? And answer for sure, does the rifle have the mag release lever on the mag itself or on the bottom metal?

Thanks for the additional pics. You posted while I was typing my last post.

    Definitely the 55232.

The 55105 attaches the same way as the 10round mag you posted a picture of in your first post and you already know that one didn’t fit.
