    This years 308 hunting load

I dove into reloading after coming across some great yard sale and estate sale deals. So I bought a 308 Axis (since my deals included the components needed for 308) and loaded up some discontinued 165 grain sierra round nose bullets over 44 grains of w748 and CCI 200 primers. I thought this would be a deer hammer of a load. It did not disappoint me. I was able to get a shot off on a doe at about 50 yards which dropped her in her tracks. Now I am on the lookout for some more of the 165 gr. RN bullets. I wish someone would bring back that bullet.

Sounds like some bad medicine for the ungulates in your area! No pics?

    Congratulations.

When I used a .308 in woods I'd load it down a little and use .30-30 bullets. That was a long time ago

That sounds like a great idea, I have a few boxes of 30-30 bullets.

If you like the round nose Sierras there are always the 150gr and 180gr Sierra Pro Hunters.
Also the 165gr Game King hollow points have a more rounded nose than the Match Kings and shoot great as well as hammering game.
Just a couple of more proven options from Sierra.
A good wife and a steady job has ruined many a great hunter.

I will have to keep an eye out for those 165gr. And give them a try.
