NEW Savage Lever Gun

Anyone know any Savage insiders,
That could be asked if Savage has looked into using the Impulse design, for modification into a lever gun ?
If they would use a round reciever, keep the barrel nut, have a magpul center feed magizine or even the snap together thin sheet metal magizine, you would think, it would be feasible, very feasible, and just as important, should be very cost effective.
They would have most of the parts readily available, other than the lever, some additional linkage to mate the lever and bolt together,the trigger group, and the stock.
I would, God forgive me, even accept a synthetic stock .

Well, I see a few obvious problems with this "idea."

1. Where is that linkage supposed to be housed if you're using a round receiver?
2. How are you going to cycle the lever when you have that Magpul mag in the way blocking it's path?
3. Why on God's green Earth would you want to start with an overly complicated and costly to manufacture Impulse design?


And this kids is a perfect example of why you should never do drugs.

Well
Welding a couple of pieces of steel under the reciever would give you a mounting for the lever.
The old 99 "is too complex/expensive to invest new equipment" thus the impulse design has all the equipment/running/invested.
Magpul "polymer/plastic" magizine.
???
I would think it would mount low enough in stock to avoid the bolt, not unlike a old 110.
Not sure I follow?

Recently I bought my first 99 in 300 savage. If a gun ever felt "right" it is this one. Once I took it down I looked it over close. Now I am not a mechanical production manager or anything but it looks to me like investment casting techniques could make a new 99 possible. Sure it would cost more than most bolt actions but I think the market is out there.

They switched to investment casting on all the large parts after 1987 for the 99C. They looked into bringing the 99 back about 12-13 yrs ago, didn't think they could do it at a price point that would make it sell well.

The 99’s were mostly hand assembled. On average, 1 in 4 worked properly when first assembled. So 3 of 4 had to be taken apart, suspected problem parts honed or polished and then reassembled. Some units required this procedure 4 or 5 times to get the firearm to function properly. In lite of today’s market, we couldn’t afford this.
