Model 110 LA .223 in ORYX chassis.

I recently posted about a 110 long action .223 I installed in an ORYX chassis. Have been single loading and could not find a LA mag for the .223. Dave suggested trying a larger caliber mag and making a conversion. Well, managed to find a steel 30-06 AICS mag and fitted it to my rifle by nipping 5/8" off the rear of the feed lips so it would lock into the ORYX with a double feed 110 receiver without reworking the receiver. Works great after reshaping and polishing the feed lips. Bubba strikes again, but at least it works and I can load more in the mag should I desire. Whatta Hobby!

Fan-flippin’-tastict brother! Great work. Don’t ya just love when simplicity works as well as hoped for?

NF.. that’s a sharp looking rig my friend. And sure can’t argue with that target.. nice precision.

Sort of finishing up this project. The old Leupold 6.5 - 20 target dot had been on the rifle for 3 decades and was on it when I shot that 10-X. As part of the chassis upgrade I added a Night Force Competition 15 - 55 - 52mm scope. Rifle already had a Jard 7oz trigger. Looking forward to getting out on my range for sure. Next project is a 110 .308 that will be set up the same way. Was initially set us as twins with same scopes. Whatta Hobby!

Photo of the pair of Savages .223 and .308 as they were for decades. Never knew retardedment could be so much darn fun. I have a pair of Winchester model 70s in .223 and .308 from the same era that will stay as they are. Whatta Hobby!

2 rnd sight in worked great after in the house laser boresight. First shot was 4 moa high and 4 moa left. Scope adjustment put the second shot within 1/4" of aim point. Dang I like these Night Force scopes.
Not down to 1/4 moa yet, but getting close. Just under 1/2 moa today. Sure getting excited to get her to the magical 1/4. Rifle and ammo are fine, it's the trigger monkey's built in wobble factor that is the problem. Temp 35 with a very slight breeze. Scope with 1/8 moa clicks sure helps place things better than the 1/4. Whatta Hobby!

Have to make a correction on my earlier post. Load was 23.5 of Varget, not 26.5. Went out one more time for the day and I know the rifle is capable. Less than 1/4" vertical dispersion at 100 yds. so the ammo load is working and that darn flyer out to the left got me. Now if I can take care of the trigger monkey's horizontal wobble factor, I may have it nailed. Whatta Hobby!

    Thanks guys.
Working on my straight back trigger control. Trying to get rid of the horizontal disp. I know it's something I need to improve. Rifle and ammo are great. Whatta Hobby!

Keep it simple. Looks like I found exactly the load I will be putting together this weekend. 10 rnds of .223 at 100 yds with my old Savage. Ordered another 1K of the Berger 73 gn bt target bullets and another 5K of 205Ms today. Whatta Hobby!

Good show partner…. Can’t argue with them results not a bit! My hat sir!

I’m glad for you this all worked out so well. From the build to getting the magazine situation figured out & remedied without trouble, and now this fantastic accuracy. Bravo my friend!

Thank you. Enjoying the heck out of the old Savages. Next project on the bench is another Savage long action 110 in .308 same vintage as the .223. ORYX and mag are on order. New Jard 7 oz trigger sitting in the shop just waiting to go in. Whatta Hobby!

Moved a Savage 110 .308 with heavy 24" barrel into the ORYX chassis I have been using on my 110 .223 while waiting for a new chassis to arrive. Installed Lumbley bolt lift kits on both. Running a new batch of 100 once fired and freshly annealed DAG brass through the precision process of pressing a .307 carbide neck tension mandrel and weighing. Plan on priming and loading with 150 gn fb bullets over 43.5 gn of Varget and seating CBTo at 2.301 to just kiss the lands today. Hope this load works as well as the .223 in the same configuration. Whatta Hobby!

Popped the 110 .308 into the same Chassis the .223 has been in while waiting for the new ORYX to arrive. Installed a new Jard trigger and set to 7 oz. Added a Lumley bolt lift kit. Stuck the shop MK4 16X on her for testing. 30 deg and overcast, no wind. 10 rnds at 100 yds makes a decent test for her. Low one at 6 was the trigger monkey's fault and too the group from a nice .2 to a .5. Whatta Hobby!

How much did your accuracy improve? over the old stock.

Not really sure accuracy improved with just the chassis, but with other variables under control like ammo production done with precision and the addition of a 7 oz trigger, about 1/4 moa from1/2 moa to 1/4 or better with all things considered. Groups have been cut in half, at least I am trying to convince myself that is the case. Whatta Hobby!

I have a question about the Jard trigger, did you have to do anything to mod the stock or anything to make it work?

No Sir, just went in like a dream. I did give it a squirt of One Shot after it was in place. Whatta Hobby!

I have been getting mine direct from Jard's website and use their centerfire unit along with the 3 position safety which seems to be required. Whatta Hobby!
