    Did Savage Make Changes..?

Quoting from a post on the High Road ( Rifle Country forum ). " The newer Savages have a revised firing pin/ spring system more akin to the Axis than the old heavy springs...bolt lift a lot smoother. " Dave? Charlie? Were/are Axis line bolt lifts smoother? That`s a surprise if accurate.

The 1-piece firing pin was added in 2018. Some believe them to be lighter. I do not; at least not like a mildly worked adjustable firing pin assembly. And that brings me to the second point. The 2018+ firing pins are non-adjustable. And they accept only thrust bearing style lift kits. (I prefer the single point). The spring used also lends to more light primer strike problems than that of the adjustable assembly style.

Actually, the 1 pc firing pin originated in the "Edge" when it debuted in 2009. The same money saving technology was applied to the model 11's in 2012, and since then they seem to be in anything that is not a target/tactical/top of the line models
The original short action multi- piece firing pin weighs in at 617 grains, versus the 1 piece at 524 grains. Originally the 1 piece used a single spring with a tail to hold the cocking piece pin. The problem with that was the sharp edge on the end of the spring would dig into the bolt assembly screw and "unwind" the spring and cause the bolt to creep open. This problem was addressed around Nov 2011, and the 3 piece spring arrangement was introduced.
The original Edge firing pin weighed 585 grains and it too, was reduced to 481 grains as of May 2012.

As Dave said, the mickey mouse spring, the lighter pin and the fact that it is not adjustable has lead to more ignition problems than a good old style set up.
"As long as there's lead in the air....there's still hope.."

To me, the cocking action feels cheaper too. Up against the old style that has been T and T'ed, this is especially true.
The Dunning-Kruger effect is alive and well.
