Mine is of the later vintage and the magazine has three lines printed on it! savage 23d .22 hornet magazine - Search Images (bing.com)
Fun little rifles. I also have a .25-20 and 32.20!
looking at an old school 23d .22 hornet checkered stock...d&t 3 on top 2 on left side (has weaver side mount, mounted)...steel butt plate w/ SVG marked on bottom
from what I have read would date to after 1940 with these features..
my question is the mag base is just marked .22 Hornet
looking online I have seen other mags marked in 3 lines, on top model 23d, in middle SAVAGE and on bottom .22 hornet...wondering if these would be earlier and they changed to just .22 hornet...or the mag is a replacement?

love the history
thanks for any input/help

Thanks for the info....my first thought was "replacement"....guy has had rifle quite abit...
no other mark's on it so I assume not savage made...or did they make just cal. marked replacements after the war?
and then how are later rifle models marked?
thanks al
