Last year I bought an Axis II XP during Bass Pro Black Friday sale
This year their add for Black Friday has an Axis XP package.
Is this the same rifle and if not what is the difference?
The nearest store is more than an hours drive for me but perhaps some of you have looked already or just know what the difference is.

Yes, they will be equal precision wise. The Axis & Axis II are the same rifle save for the Accutrigger. And if you want, you can simply purchase the Axis trigger to put in the standard Axis. Or another trigger for that matter. MCarbo makes an aftermarket Accutrigger style trigger even.

Savage Axis XP is a package gun. XP denotes An entry level "package gun", basically an entry level no frills hunting rig with a scope if you will. The one in the ad is a bottom teir Weaver 3-9x40.
No accutrigger until you get to the Axis 2 model.
The XP designation for package guns goes way back and have always been entry level cheapest version available packages with an inexpensive scope. They did have a deal with Nikon years ago for a while that featured a decent entry level Nikon with a BDC reticle. The only exception Im aware of was the the law enforcement package guns of the 1990s that came with a hard Pelican case, a Harris bi pod and a Leupold scope.those were nice pretty much top of the line setups at the time.

If considering an aftermarket trigger, the Axis II seems to be $100 more than the Axis. The McCarbo trigger is more than that, but, is a little better than the Axis II trigger.
My Axis II came in an XP package years ago from Walmart. The inexpensive Bushnell scope on it wasn't great, but, it worked. When I replaced it I gifted it to someone on another forum who has used it for several hunting seasons.
Going on that, you can buy an regular Axis & pick up an Accutrigger from EBay sometimes really cheap. Sometimes.
