    .300 ammo

New 99 owner here. I won a 1956 Savage 99 243 and a 1925 Savage 99 .300 Savage take down at an auction, both in very good condition. Where can i find any .300 savage ammo?
I let a 99 308 get away from me years ago and have been looking for one ever since.
    Thanks Harold

That sounds like two that were just auctioned off at the local LGS in Panama City!!?? If these are the ones, both nice rifles. .300 is hard to find but it's out there. These places show it in stock. 300 Savage Ammo | In Stock 300 Savage Ammunition - AmmoBuy

If you are in PC, pm me. I have my personal stash.

I can't PM you yet, either. Try Kings Sports in Chipley. King's Outdoors - Chipley, FL 32428 (yellowpages.com)
They have an extensive stock of ammo of all kinds. If they don't have any, we'll figure something out!!

Kings said they have some hornady SST 150 grain in stock @ $50 a box, will have to take a ride. Alamo pawn was out. Thanks for the tips.

Awesome! Glad I could help. I'm almost a fixture at Mancave, Derrick has become a good friend of mine. I help him a lot with the old rifles. I have six 1899/99 takedowns. Love them old rifles. If you need help with anything, let me know!!

Sorry, a little late to the party. Ammoseek shows Hornady Superformance available from several small distributors. Hornady appears to be the only current supplier. Superformance is good stuff. 300 Savage is one caliber that has been slow to return after the Covid drought. 7.35 Carcano has not returned at all, save for a few boutique producers.

I hand load, and have been making the transition to Copper bullets. Another item that disappeared during Covid was 150 grain E-Tips, and they just resurfaced at Graf & Sons a few weeks ago.

Fleet farm in northern MN has 300 sav ammo frequently. My local dealer gets it a couple times each year. It’s getting harder to find as time goes on. Getting expensive also.
I’m reloading for both my 300 savages now but I’ll still grab up a box of factory ammo when I see it. I prefer to reload once shot factory brass.

Federal and Remington still do one run of 300 sav ammo each year.

Thanks everyone, got a box from Kings Sports/Drugs

Shot the gun yesterday and it works great , cycles and locks up tight. I'm not very good with open sight anymore, eyes to old.
Also shot a new to me 99 243 w/weaver 2.5x scope and that gun is awesome. 1.25in groups @ 100yrds. with rest.

Ya might want to put a tang sight on it. Marbles makes a nice one that's windage adjustable. I have tangs on five of my six 1899/99's. DO NOT drill it since it's still original. The only no drill scope mount is made by this company. Pearson Scope Mount No Drill and Tap – PEARSON SCOPE MOUNTS
    Installation looks easy enough.
Search results for: 'marbles tang sight for 1899 savage' (buffaloarms.com) I hit the 200 yard 12" gongs easily with tang sights. My eyes are 75!!

If you reload you can make 300 Savage cases from 308 Winchester. Powders and bullets for 30 caliber are very common.

I have 2 300 savages. Both 99’s. I shoot one of them a fair bit. I’ve resorted to reloading my own ammo for them now. It’s hard to rely on my local retailers for factory ammo when I need it. They take a 308 bullet and there’s lots of powders that work well for it. The hard thing to find these days is large rifle primers. Good thing I had some stock piled prior to the shortage.
