Well I have a matte rail for 1 next is the matte scope, that's a start! LOL.

No seriously going 2 piece rings and a nice gloss scope. I did not have the correct trigger guard, I had plastic and had to bust out the Dremel, too wide.
Incorrect action screws. Lets say I have it roughed in.

Guess I'll be calling Savage Monday and Hope I have some luck getting a metal one in high gloss and the correct screws.
I'm pretty stoked as I only have $800 in this 2 gun project.
    Thanks for your reply.

I helped a friend do a stainless version of the classic. We sandblasted the trigger guard, bottom metal frame and base. We ended up using a GK products stainless paint. It is more of a satin finish like the action. A SSS bolt handle and like you, 2 piece mounts with Warne rings combined with a Sightron SII Big Sky 2.5x 10.. Very nice with the Savage wood stock. It is a 308, so nothing fancy. He has handled it like an expensive rifle and and it looks the same. It has never failed him with 150 gr Partition.
The Dunning-Kruger effect is alive and well.

It’s so fulfilling putting together what is in one’s own minds eye the Perfect rifle. Having exactly the parts & appearing precisely as the builder envisions.

I just purchased a trigger guard, it's matte.

I kinda got to slow down a bit, been spending a bunch on guns lately.

I don't have it exactly the way I want it YET but I'll baby step from here.

I'm wanting a nice scope with the gold ring lol. That will be a while.

    Thanks for the comments guys.

Leupold VX-5HD? Or maybe save a bit with a VX-3? That’d be a nice addition indeed, eh?

I have to admit, the VX-5 3-15x44 would look like it belongs on that rig.

If you like the look of white line spacers you can always cut disks and or ovals from a white plastic bucket ( like a sheetrock mud bucket) to match the grip cap and recoil pad dimensions and sandwich them between the grip cap and recoil pad and the wood.
I did one in a classic style also inspired by the model 14 I couldnt afford. Its been quite a while back and it worked out pretty well.

    I remember that thread lol.
I lived in ATL for 12 years. Moved up 85 to Lake Hartwell, I-285 looks really nice in the U-HAUL trucks rear view mirror.

Yeah man… see what you can get it for. I’ve found deals are out there. Here’s a VX-5HD with either the Fine Duplex or Wind-Plex CDS reticle for $899. That’s a darn good deal for a https://www.amazon.com/Leupold-3-15x...1zcF9hdGY&th=1

VX-5. I’m a Mil/Mil optic kinda guy, just as I like Chassis over Stocks. But if I was looking for a straight hunting scope, the Leupold VX series would be my choice. Either the 3 or the 5, probably the VX-5. Leupold just does them right.
