I know PTG makes bolt heads and Grizzly used to but PTG is a 4 to 6 week wait.

Yes, they are different. Grizzly never made them. They simply sold PTG bolt heads. PTG is the only aftermarket manufacturer of Savage bolt heads. Check if Midway has them in stock. Which do you need, Long or Short Action?

Just for giggles, this material is the crux of the biscuit for Savage Boltheads

I got my replacement from Numrich. It happened to be a new part but they also have some used ones.

GunShack also carries both Long & Short Action Bolt heads. They even have 223, 7.62x39 & Magnum Bolt Heads.

Did you find it? GunShack has those in push feed, small firing pin.

Nor sure what small firing pin means. Is this a customization thing? Would my pin have to be modified?

The older magnums used a larger firing pin diameter through the bolt retaining pin. But was changed to the standard small diameter later on. If your rifle is newer, you have a small diameter firing pin.

    Older Magnum large diameter:

    Current small diameter pin.

In 2001 all models started using the small diameter. Here is a more detailed article. Good info.
