Screw size for Model 11 buttplate

I've fashioned a butt-plate extender for my Model 11 .243 with a plastic stock. However, I've been to several hardware stores and have had no luck finding screws similar to those which came with the rifle. I contacted Savage and was told that they don't have any and don't know the size, as the stocks came from their supplier. Can anybody let me know the thread count/pitch of these screws, or even better, where they can be purchased? The screws need to be about 1 - 1 1/2" longer than the originals.

I think #6 screws work. If you post a picture it would be easier to identify.
